Short Bio - Word from the Photographer
I have 3 grown kids - now in the their 20's - so I know how quickly time passes, and how important it is to have the special moments recorded. My parents gave me my first 35 mm camera when I graduated high school, and I think I must have spent every extra penny I had after that on film and developing. I have boxes and boxes of photos of my kids as babies and toddlers, and too many photo books to even count. So, I guess I've been "into" photography for quite a while. I got my first DSLR - a Canon 20D - about 7 years ago. I would subscribe to all of the photography magazines, and read every book I could get my hands on. But while my kids were still growing up I never found the "right time" to really pursue my passion for photography. Still, I was always with my camera, taking pictures all the time. Suddenly, though, it seemed my kids were grown, and I reached a real point of finally having the time to fully pursue my dreams. So despite some anxiety - I started classes to learn my camera better... and from there it just blossomed. Now I am shooting with a Canon 7D, have more lenses and equipment than I could ever use, and rarely will you catch me without my camera. I'm sure some of that could also be from my extreme love of camera purses... I think I have them all!! When I got serious about starting a photography business, I had to do it all by the rules: taxes, licensing, logo, branding...even making sure I didn't break any copyright rules with the music I play on my website!
Lifestyle would be the best way to describe my photography style. I'm not crazy about the studio-look photographs, although I do have a studio in my home with backdrops and lighting - the works. I do realize there is a need and desire for the traditional, but it's not where my heart is nudged the most. My favorite photos are always the ones of the special moments... the photos that you almost feel you need to look away from, as if you are intruding on a special moment. Those are the photos that I find in the frames in my house, and the ones that my kids always pick as their favorites of themselves and each other from growing up. I love to capture moments that show more than just a picture, but rather tell a story...The ones that evoke emotion and make you want to keep looking over and over again. My heart melts with every newborn photography shoot that I am blessed enough to do. I fall in love with every new baby! And with every photo shoot - whether it's a family, business, maternity, etc. - I feel I come away with a new friend. That's the best part of the job - meeting the people, getting to know them and hopefully capturing their moments that will last for a lifetime. It is truly a blessing to get to do what I'm doing -- and I have been blessed in return meeting so many wonderful people.

I LOVE my job! I used to take sheets and hang them from closet doors to take pictures of my little cousins in front of when I was a little girl. I continued to have a love of photography growing up and was the editor for the yearbook in high school. From there I went on to go to a photography school and start my business. I strive to make my clients feel comfortable and have fun! I love every type of photography from the newborn babies to the 50th Anniversary parties!

I married my high school sweetheart. We've been together nearly 10 years, married for 5 (though 2 of those dating years we spent apart while he served a mission to Canada for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. And yes, I wrote him the whole time.) We have one little boy who is almost 2. He probably is the most gorgeous being to ever walk the planet.I don't mind looking like a big geek most of the time. I've embraced it, actually. Looking cool isn't worth the effort!Last but not least, I love my job. I grew up drawing princesses and princes and castles, and somehow found a job that lets me work with the closest modern equivalent to that every day. Plus I am a hopeless romantic. Love moves me. Intensity, vulnerability, contentment, passion, jubilation, serenity, joy...all things I get to witness every day when I'm shooting these young couples before and on their wedding day. Can there be anything better? Photography, for me, was an almost accidental offshoot of my art background, but once I picked up that camera, everything fell right into place.I write in my spare time. (When I have spare time!) Currently I'm working on a novel that may never see the light of day, but I don't really mind. It makes me happy.

I have been shooting now for 4 years. I started when my daughter was almost 3 months old. I have no idea why I started a business when I had a newborn! Anyway, I've gone from working in my garage to a tiny studio in our old town house to building a home just for the studio and now in a retail studio place.
I absolutely love what I do for a living. I don't feel like it's a job. Well, maybe except during crazy season.
I also teach off camera flash to people all over the world. I've been to Australia, Salt Lake City 3 times and going for a 4th, Michigan twice, Las Vegas, Florida, New Orleans and going to be going to Sacramento in October.
I enjoy teaching photographers and meeting so many amazing people! I met Scott Jarvie thru my adventures in traveling and teaching!

I never thought I would be able to make money doing photography. I took a few classes in High School and fell in love with it.
When I was younger I always thought I would be a nurse. After working for 3 years as a Certified Nursing Assistant I decided that was definitely not the career for me.
I have lived in Utah my whole life, probably will stay here forever. I got married in April 2009. My children have fur, feathers and gills. I love any type of animal.
I'm currently going to school at Weber State University. I know I don't need a degree to be a photographer, but having a college education has always been important to me.
Taking pictures of babies and children is my passion. Little toes, sad cries, sweet smiles, playing, fighting, I love it all. There is something so precious about a picture of a sleeping baby in black and white.

I'm very competitive. As I was getting pretty serious into photography, I became pregnant with my fifth child. It became a high-risk pregnancy and I was ordered to be on bed-rest for ten weeks. Photography had to be put on hold. My baby came three months early and I was able to document his journey with my love for photography. He's now out of the hospital and doing really well. I grew up one of three girls, I was the middle. I became very independent, strong minded, strong willed and responsible at a very young age. I was always concerned about others and dreaded the thought of anyone being mad at me. I honored and respected my parents. I had dreams to be someone...someone successful. I wasn't sure how I would acheive that. I spent time going to college,
working, then trying to find myself while being a nanny across the country. After returning to where I called home, two weeks later I met my sweet husband. We were inseparable, in a whirlwhind romance, constantly joined at the hip. Eight months later we were married. Six months after that, we were expecting our first little baby. After becoming a mommy, it became one of the biggest parts of defining my success. Longing for the baby pictures that were never taken of me, I started to become obsessive with recording my own babies life. There grew my love for photograhy and one other way of defining my own success. Along the years, more children blessed and enriched my life. And each of them helped to nourish, cultivate, and strengthen my desire to learn photography. I was always told I had an eye when others saw my work. It encouraged me and I eventually took the plunge and bought my first Digital SLR camera in 2008. Many friends and family helped me practice by being my subjects. And many other photographers inspired me all the while deepening my strong urge to pursue this passion. While at first my love for photography was self-serving, I really saw the happiness I brought to others when taking pictures for them. They say you find pure joy in serving others, that you lose yourself in service and your problems become the least of your worries. My way to serve others is to help them keep the memories they hold dear to their hearts. I'm lucky to have found something that is my passion in which not only benefits me, but all those around me as well.

Word from the Photographer: Photography is something I admired from the sidelines for most of my life. I rarely ever had a camera with me because the photos I'd take with my point-and-shoot rarely showed what I saw. Then I discovered flickr.com and I discovered the world of manual settings. I quickly upgraded to my very first dSLR (Canon 40D). All I can say, being in control and "telling" the camera what I wanted made a HUGE difference. I was hooked! Photographing newborns coincided nicely with my other passion; knitwear designs for babies and children. As the word spread I was also asked about doing maternity photos and that's how I ended up specializing in both. There is still so much I want to try photography wise and I'm looking forward to learning and growing in this field!

Short Bio:
"Being passionate about photography is in my nature. I have always had a fascination with art and imagery. As a teen, I would spend my money on magazines, and every square inch of my room was covered like wallpaper with ads that provoked specific emotions. I see passion, drama, truth and beauty in every moment. I cannot help but translate that into my work. As a photographer, my goal is to create stunning photos. I find a sense of fulfillment in this art that I don't find anywhere else. All of my passions (like music and my family) influence and affect my photographs. I am a hopeless romantic with a flare for style and glamour. I'm relaxed and fun, and I tend to babble if I'm excited or nervous
You should know: photography is not my "job". It is my obsession, I'm intoxicated by it. "
A Word From Jarvie
I didn't do the Highlighting post on Brooke but I wanted to say a couple words.
I was introduced to Brooke's photography through a couple of good friends.
Seems like I've had a lot of interns and friends in love with her work.
I find it funny that I feel important because I actually know her, they think I'm cooler because I do.
Truth is I only met her once at my birthday party. But I'll take what I can get.
Meet The Photographer Event
Recently I came up with this rocking idea to highlight well known photographers in a fun and friendly fashion.
Since a lot of people know about her and yet a lot of people don't actually know her personally, we should do an event that solves this.
We'll meet up and start a new Meet the Photographer event
She'll be the first photographer: This Monday 7pm
So if you'd like to meet Brooke in person and know more about her and her photography make your way on over to Lehi, Utah on Monday.
For more details check out my Blog post - http://jarviestudios.com/blog/2010/02/meet-brooke-kinsey

I am a big dork. I like to make faces and weird noises at random times. I am pretty up front and open and those who know me can pretty much tell you that if you ask me something, I will tell you the truth. I have no shame and tend to blog personal things that many may not have even thought of knowing...but this is who I am. I can be random, I like..no LOVE ice cream and will take it any day of the week in any weather. I love photographing people because it allows me to see inside their lives for a little bit and really makes me appreciate the love and spirit for life even more. Quotes from her website:
"I have always believed that photographers see the world through different eyes and then capture it in photos so the rest of the world can see. This is why I do what I do and this is why I love it."
"To most people I just look like a mom with a camera and when it comes right down to it, I am! My husband surprised me last September of 2008 with my first DSLR and I have rarely been seen without it since."
"My life has changed a lot since finding my passion for photography. I have met amazing people and made friendships that will last forever."

A word from another photographer. (me)
I'm proud to say that I'm one of those friendships she speaks of.
We met in October of 2008 when I had seen a couple of her pictures from a photowalking event and said to myself
this girl is one of the professional photographers that comes to photowalks as opposed to the many hobbiests.
At the next event I told her how great her pictures were and she said she had only owned a camera for a month.
She was persistent in asking questions and getting advice.
Soon after I offered to do a short photography workshop and she went to several lightroom workshops.
It would be a privelege to say I taught her... but she has gone far far beyond what I offered
and in truth she would have learned it without anyone's help, that's how dedicated she is... and good!
I remember when Suzanne and our friend Steph weren't interested in weddings at all.
I invited them to a couple of my weddings to assist and later I started to refer them.
Now to hear Suzanne say:
"There is nothing I haven't tried shooting but my favs are weddings and kids. Weddings because of the high energy and love I feel and kids because of the equally high energy and attitude I get!"
It's nice to hear you're great at what you love to do, which she is.
But I think it's even better to know you're a wonderful person, which she is.
This is a clip showing how fun Suzanne is.
(Clip by David Terry shot on a 5DII)
Most recently Suzanne is known as the "Pretty Girl" that Scott Bourne picked to receive a prize at an event just because he could.
