Short Bio:

I love photographing people, telling stories with my images and offering beautiful artwork and exceptional service to my clients! My business has grown and changed so much in the past 5 years. When things quickly switched from hoping to have work to being buried in work I realized how much I prefer to limit my weddings and sessions in order to offer a high level of customer service. I learned how important it was to understand owning a business as much as I understand and love photography (or else I wouldn’t have one very long!) Over the past year and a half, with the help of a business coach and my assistant/graphic designer Kristi Webb, I’ve completed tons of projects aimed at improving Angel Gray Photography. I opened my studio in the Spring of 2010 and really enjoy having that space. I had the privilege this year of being chosen by ABC’s Extreme Makeover Home Edition to shoot one of their families who were given a new home in a neighboring town to mine and that was fun! Most recently I’m on the verge of releasing a brand new multimedia service to families called “The Legacy Project” and I’m incredibly excited because the idea grew out of my personal experience.
My husband and I have three beautiful children ages 3, 6 and 8 and I’m super honored to be featured here in the midst of so many awesome photographers --huge thanks!

Bio:

My first dabbling in the creative arts was probably the mud pies I perfected while growing up in the small farm town of Deweyville, Utah. Middle school started my love affair with music, where weekly lessons led me to love and conquer the flute, plus experiment with piano, tenor saxophone & vocal performance. Bear River High English classes uncovered a natural writing talent & landed me as yearbook editor. For the first time I noticed photography but it couldn’t sway me from my written love affair or my high school boyfriend Jordan (who I now call husband).

I entered the University of Utah knowing exactly what I wanted, majoring in Mass Communication. I thrived in the college setting and found a new surprise past time, Latin ballroom dance. I continued assembling a written portfolio I hoped would land me with a major magazine. Meanwhile, missing Jordan, I headed to Moscow Russia to teach English and to get a taste of the country Jordan was serving an LDS mission in. With a new digital camera in tote, I wet my appetite for photography, with Europe providing every subject I could imagine. I returned home, finished my obsession with straight A’s graduating summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree. Ten days later I married Jordan. The next week I started work as a writing intern at Utah Bride & Groom Magazine. I fell in love with the wedding industry, but found myself completely jealous of their staff photographer.

My internship ended and off to New Haven, Connecticut we went. It was there that I decided photography was more than an interest, but an amazing career opportunity for me. I built a portrait portfolio, and then just when weddings began to enter my world, Jordan finished his bachelor degree at Yale University and decided a PhD in biomedical engineering at my alma mater was our future. So we packed up our family, which now included Ella, and moved back to Salt Lake. No surprise, once in Utah, my wedding photography career took off. Once again I found my work published in Utah Bride& Groom Magazine, but this time for photography. Jordan is still busy with school and we’ve now added Hazel to our family lineup, but somehow I feel like I’ve found a needed balance between my life as “mom” and “Elizabeth Taylor Frandsen” this year. We’ll see how long that lasts ;)

It is an honor to be highlighted on you website, because some of my very favorite photographers have been featured here in the past.  I have loved photography since I was just a little girl, but it wasn’t until I had a family of my own that my opportunities to begin shooting and experimenting with photography became more serious.  Now that my six children are mostly grown, with the youngest being 14, I have more time to pursue things that I really love to do in addition to being a mom, and photography is it!  My family is relieved beyond measure, since I no longer have my camera stuck in their face for every event that they are involved in.  I am able to get my photography fix on other people now!

When I was young, my family did a lot of traveling overseas.  My mother trusted me enough with her camera that I became the designated photographer on many of our trips.  On one occasion, when I was about 9 or 10, a plane we were flying in over Africa was asked to delay landing for some unknown reason.  To pass the time, the pilot flew the plane around the top of Mount Kilimanjaro a couple of times, and my mother handed over the camera for me to start shooting.  I took an entire roll of images through the plane’s window and they came out beautifully.  To this day, one of those photos is enlarged and framed in my parents home.  Ever since that experience, I have always felt like I was capable of taking a pretty good picture!

I enjoy all kinds of photography, but focusing on individuals and couples is my favorite thing to do.  That’s why I love to shoot wedding photography, as well as high school seniors.  They are by far the most fun to be with.  They have to many interesting things to talk about and such big dreams to share.

I have enjoyed creating my business, and am continually trying to learn all that I can to improve my skills.  I prefer not to get locked into one kind of style, but I tend to be drawn to rich and vibrant colors, and I absolutely love a slightly over-processed look to my editing.  If you are ever in Salt Lake City and are looking for a photographer, look me up and let’s go have some fun!

Short Bio

I am a twenty-something wife and mother.  That always comes first. I love art, especially the pre-raphaelite movement (Dicksee, Waterhouse and Leighton are a few favorites), and the "Golden Age of Illustration" (think Arthur Rackham, Kay Nielson and, of course, Maxfield Parrish) and many others.I studied art in high school, earning the Sterling Scholar in art for my school.  I then attended Weber State University on a full tuition art scholarship. After a year of art overload, I quit the art program in favor of my second love, English literature...I love fairy tales.  If WSU had had a folklore major, I might have considered that.  What I would have done with it is another thing entirely...I'd probably still be a photographer.   Who happened to know a lot about folklore. :)

I married my high school sweetheart.  We've been together nearly 10 years, married for 5 (though 2 of those dating years we spent apart while he served a mission to Canada for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  And yes, I wrote him the whole time.)  We have one little boy who is almost 2.  He probably is the most gorgeous being to ever walk the planet.I don't mind looking like a big geek most of the time.  I've embraced it, actually.  Looking cool isn't worth the effort!Last but not least, I love my job.  I grew up drawing princesses and princes and castles, and somehow found a job that lets me work with the closest modern equivalent to that every day. Plus I am a hopeless romantic.  Love moves me.  Intensity, vulnerability, contentment, passion, jubilation, serenity, joy...all things I get to witness every day when I'm shooting these young couples before and on their wedding day.  Can there be anything better? Photography, for me, was an almost accidental offshoot of my art background, but once I picked up that camera, everything fell right into place.I write in my spare time. (When I have spare time!)  Currently I'm working on a novel that may never see the light of day, but I don't really mind.  It makes me happy. :)

Short Bio

I grew up in Layton, Utah and have lived here all of my life.  I love shooting weddings and getting to be involved in such an important part of peoples lives.  Over the years I have met some of the greatest families and couples.

I am a lover of life.  I am grateful to be alive.  I love all types of music and music is a huge part of my life.  I am a lover of mexican food and love spicy foods.

Many of my past clients have become very close friends.  As we work together, I hope we can become good friends too.  If you need anything, let me know, it is my pleasure to help.  If you have questions, ask, I love answering questions.

I met my wife Tiffany in high school.  It was October 3rd, 1998.  We were both going to homecoming dances at different schools with different dates.  She was at a mutual friends house getting ready for her date and another mutual friend was in town and wanted me to come visit.  When I arrived at the house, my friends told me there was a girl inside getting ready and I needed to go and tell her that she looked just like Celine Dion.  So I played along, I walked up the stairs to the bathroom where she was curling her hair.  As I turned the corner, there stood the most beautiful girl I had ever seen in my life.  To this day she still takes my breath away.  I said "Wow, you look just like Celine Dion" and the rest is history.  We had our first date a week later in Park City.  I enjoy spending my life with her by my side and would be nothing without her.  I want to thank her for her support and her friendship.

Photography has been a beautiful journey for me. When I started booking weddings, it was because I needed something to support this expensive habit of buying cameras and lenses. But the more I did it, the more I enjoyed being there in the moment, seeing things in a way that no one else would. No wedding is the same, and each is an opportunity to push myself artistically. Also, I try to keep commercialization from creeping into my work. I believe that real art involves people and relationships, as well as a lot of time, heart, and hard work. It's a process of giving freely and receiving with open hands. It's always my hope that my images reflect those values.
