My name is Ashlee, I have full time desk job, I am a wife, and I have a 2 year old lab that has more energy then any 2 year old child I've ever met!
I've been taking pictures for as long as I can remember! I got my first SLR camera in 7th grade and fell in love with it {i still own it and shoot with it from time to time} there is something about film that you will never be able to replace with digital. My favorite part about photography is being able to capture things from my point of view and show people that there is beauty in every thing around us.I shot my first wedding in 2006 but didn't go into business until 2009. My goal as a photographer is to shoot from my heart and make every client feel comfortable and beautiful! I love getting to know my clients on a personal level so that I can create images and memories who they are, and not who I think they should be.
I love being a wedding photographer! Spending one of the most important days with my clients and capturing their love for each other is one of the most amazing things to me! I love getting caught up in the moment and being able to capture those moments in images that will be cherished forever.

It is an honor to be highlighted on you website, because some of my very favorite photographers have been featured here in the past. I have loved photography since I was just a little girl, but it wasn’t until I had a family of my own that my opportunities to begin shooting and experimenting with photography became more serious. Now that my six children are mostly grown, with the youngest being 14, I have more time to pursue things that I really love to do in addition to being a mom, and photography is it! My family is relieved beyond measure, since I no longer have my camera stuck in their face for every event that they are involved in. I am able to get my photography fix on other people now!
When I was young, my family did a lot of traveling overseas. My mother trusted me enough with her camera that I became the designated photographer on many of our trips. On one occasion, when I was about 9 or 10, a plane we were flying in over Africa was asked to delay landing for some unknown reason. To pass the time, the pilot flew the plane around the top of Mount Kilimanjaro a couple of times, and my mother handed over the camera for me to start shooting. I took an entire roll of images through the plane’s window and they came out beautifully. To this day, one of those photos is enlarged and framed in my parents home. Ever since that experience, I have always felt like I was capable of taking a pretty good picture!
I enjoy all kinds of photography, but focusing on individuals and couples is my favorite thing to do. That’s why I love to shoot wedding photography, as well as high school seniors. They are by far the most fun to be with. They have to many interesting things to talk about and such big dreams to share.
I have enjoyed creating my business, and am continually trying to learn all that I can to improve my skills. I prefer not to get locked into one kind of style, but I tend to be drawn to rich and vibrant colors, and I absolutely love a slightly over-processed look to my editing. If you are ever in Salt Lake City and are looking for a photographer, look me up and let’s go have some fun!

My name is Stephanie Sunderland but feel free to call me Steph. I have been photographing for almost 2 years now and I have never been so happy. It is truly a blessing to be able to do this and call it my job.
I fell in love with photography during my first semester as a freshman in college. Having no idea what I wanted to major in I decided to take a photo class just for fun. Little did I know that course would change my life. After discovering the passion and love I possessed for photography I knew I couldn’t do anything else. I have been photographing ever since…

I’m Lisa...a 34 year old stay at home mom to 8 (soon to be 9!) children and a wife to my sweet husband, Jeff. I love traveling, camping, hiking, archaeology, studying ancient civilizations and their cultures, cooking (especially things exotic and unusual), and spending time with my family. Oh, AND photography...how could I forget that! I LOVE photography!
I graduated from high school in 1994 and enlisted in the United States Navy. I went through their Nuclear Power Program, which was a huge challenge, but also such a growing time in my life. After my time in the Navy, I became a mother, and have been a stay at home mom ever since. Our kids range in age from 13 on down to 1, with another expected this fall.
My start in photography is a pretty typical one. When Adrian (kiddo #5) came along in 2006, I suddenly had the urge to take better pictures of my own children. I’ve always been artistic, so this was a perfect creative outlet for me. It all started on a birth board I was part of. We had a little photography group and would post pics, give each other tips and critique, and work on different techniques. It all grew from there! What started out as a little hobby soon grew into a full fledged passion. It’s the perfectionist in me! I am not happy until things are *just right*...and obviously, photography is one of those things in which you never stop learning or growing, so here I am today, still plugging away. When I realized that all of those amazing lenses and other photography related equipment didn’t come cheap, my ‘hobby’ slowly morphed into a money making business. I do this very part time as my large family takes up most of my time. Thankfully, I have a very supportive husband and family. My 12 year old daughter has become a wonderful assistant, reflector holder, little kid smile inducer, and test model herself. I couldn’t do it without their support!
That’s me, in a nutshell! I look forward to many more years doing the things I love, enjoying life, and helping others capture amazing images and memories of their loved ones.

Corey started in photography when he took a photography class and was a photog for his senior yearbook in high school. The camera he used then and still uses on occasion now is a Pentax K1000. In fact one of the speedlites he uses in his portable "strobist" outfit is the very strobe used with the Pentax all those years ago.
He joined the U.S.A.F shortly after marrying his wife and traveled between 35 states and lived in four of them. They even had the opportunity to live a just over a year in the United Kingdom. He photographed primarily his surroundings, his wife and family, and was limited only by time and money. After the kids grew to be teens, more money was available and the move from film photography to digital photography was made with the purchase of a Canon 40D.
He originally had vision of capturing primarily motorsports but has found making images of people to be much more satisfying. Now he focuses on families, models, actors/actress, and the events that happen during all of our lives.

I never thought I would be able to make money doing photography. I took a few classes in High School and fell in love with it.
When I was younger I always thought I would be a nurse. After working for 3 years as a Certified Nursing Assistant I decided that was definitely not the career for me.
I have lived in Utah my whole life, probably will stay here forever. I got married in April 2009. My children have fur, feathers and gills. I love any type of animal.
I'm currently going to school at Weber State University. I know I don't need a degree to be a photographer, but having a college education has always been important to me.
Taking pictures of babies and children is my passion. Little toes, sad cries, sweet smiles, playing, fighting, I love it all. There is something so precious about a picture of a sleeping baby in black and white.

If someone would have told me 18 months ago that I would have my own photography business one day I would have laughed!! Here I am and I LOVE it.
I grew up in a Utah. I spent most of my time playing in high school and college playing in some sort of sporting event. I graduated from Utah State University with a BS degree in Business and Info Systems. I became a computer and web programmer. I met my husband during my last semester in college. Since we've been married we lived in France, Montana, Kansas City, Virginia, and now Utah. We have 2 very entertaining children, who are now my full-time job, and take up the majority of my day.
About 18 months ago I pulled out a DSLR camera that was given to my husband before we were married. I dusted it off and started reading the instruction manual for it. At first photography was a technical and creative outlet...something I very much needed as a stay at home mom. It has since evolved into a passion. My favorite part of photography is editing...I'm not kidding. No worries, I like to shoot as well
My goal for the next year is to shoot more weddings AND more pictures of my own kids.

I wish I could think of something exciting and interesting to say, but the truth is, I'm just your average gal who's in l-o-v-e with photography!! I have been involved with photography and the arts for many years but it was the adoption of our first child that really kick-started my passion and gave me the motivation to finally turn nthis talent into a business. My favorite part of my job? I love to help others see the love and joy in their own families and children. There's nothing more rewarding than seeing a Mom's face light up (or sometimes cry!) when she holds the images of her family in her hands for the first time. Its what keeps me fulfilled, striving to learn and
develop my craft and my business as a whole. Its also a constant reminder of how precious these little moments are to a family and how easily they can slip away, going completely un-noticed.
Heading into my second year of business, I am more excited than ever before! There are so many exciting things on the horizon that I cannot wait to share with the beautiful, amazing clients of Danielle Lynn Photography!!

I grew up one of three girls, I was the middle. I became very independent, strong minded, strong willed and responsible at a very young age. I was always concerned about others and dreaded the thought of anyone being mad at me. I honored and respected my parents. I had dreams to be someone...someone successful. I wasn't sure how I would acheive that. I spent time going to college,
working, then trying to find myself while being a nanny across the country. After returning to where I called home, two weeks later I met my sweet husband. We were inseparable, in a whirlwhind romance, constantly joined at the hip. Eight months later we were married. Six months after that, we were expecting our first little baby. After becoming a mommy, it became one of the biggest parts of defining my success. Longing for the baby pictures that were never taken of me, I started to become obsessive with recording my own babies life. There grew my love for photograhy and one other way of defining my own success. Along the years, more children blessed and enriched my life. And each of them helped to nourish, cultivate, and strengthen my desire to learn photography. I was always told I had an eye when others saw my work. It encouraged me and I eventually took the plunge and bought my first Digital SLR camera in 2008. Many friends and family helped me practice by being my subjects. And many other photographers inspired me all the while deepening my strong urge to pursue this passion. While at first my love for photography was self-serving, I really saw the happiness I brought to others when taking pictures for them. They say you find pure joy in serving others, that you lose yourself in service and your problems become the least of your worries. My way to serve others is to help them keep the memories they hold dear to their hearts. I'm lucky to have found something that is my passion in which not only benefits me, but all those around me as well.

I began my work as a photographer in high school after I bought a camera and lens off of my brother. I fell in love with photography, and majored in art with a concentration in photography at the University of Virginia.
2005 found me in Nicaragua documenting Orphans for Nicaraguan Orphan Fund via Orphan Network. I was terrible, and learned quickly how to adapt to light changes, environment, and how to capture the reality of each moment and person.
In 2006, I began working for Holland Photo Arts (ahhhmazing photographers from Charlottesville, VA) - and they trained me on the craft of documenting weddings. In 2008, I began my own business, Eric Kelley Photography. Since 2006, I have had the privilege of documenting over 100 weddings in Virginia and on-location: California, New York, Brazil, Texas, Dominican Republic, Oregon and Washington.
Photography is my passion. Daily life finds me documenting people, events, homes, news for editorial work, capturing the intricacies of nature, snapping shots of my wife and son, and basically relishing the beauty of the world. I also love the post-production aspect of my job that allows me to create concepts for photography sessions or weddings for the client's taste. This is art, and I love it.
My wife, Lora Kelly, works with me to do hair and make up for the brides during the bridal shoots.

I believe happy people are the most beautiful people. And beauty has nothing to do with how someone looks. I believe everyone has a kind of beauty, and it's my job to bring that out and capture it. I love showing people how beautiful they are. I love beautiful photography, but I’m not interest in perfection in my portraits. I don’t do a lot of posing. Most of the time I will put you somewhere, stand back and wait for something to happen. “Say cheese” is not in my vocabulary. Hopefully, you won’t even know I am taking your picture when you give your kids a kiss on the cheek, or share a look with your spouse. To me, photography is about connections and moments.

Short Bio - I started in photography as a kid when my grandparents gave me an Argus 126 camera for christmas one year. I burned thru a lot of film before the economics of it all outstripped my modest 8 year-old finances. Much later on I picked up a camera when digital was just starting to catch on and before long I was back learning traditional photography and working in my own darkroom. I worked as a designer at Adobe and gravitated towards the photo side of their offerings, working on Photoshop, Camera Raw and finally Lightroom - a product which I'm very proud of and use to this day.
I spent the better part of 5 years doing mainly fine art street photography - prowling the streets with my Leica and learning how to edit my work. I kinda stumbled into dance photography when I suggested a small project with a local studio where my daughter was dancing. One thing lead to another and now I find myself shooting several big dance events a year in the Seattle area and am the studio photographer for Emerald Ballet Theatre in Bellevue, Wa. Dancers moving fast in dark environments have really pushed me technically, and I've been really happy with the improvements in hardware over the past 5 years.
My style has morphed over the past decade, and what was once a body of very traditional, very rigid black & white work has morphed into a much more varied presentation using colors, toning and more than a few vignettes. Lightroom has had a huge impact on that broadening focus beyond my comfort zone. I shoot a lot more these days, and as my volume has increased, I've actually handed off the proofing, sales and printing to SmugMug and its pro lab which has saved me a huge amount of time.
I don't do much active marketing per se, but I pick up a manageable volume of family, senior and portraiture work thru the dance studios clientele - its a nice symbiosis.
Each year brings a new bunch of stuff to learn, and I enjoy the challenges photography brings. Furthermore, I find a lot of inspiration with both the contemporary and historical work out there. I'm a huge fan of using the social media outlets, especially twitter and facebook to publicize my work and I'm amazed at the connections I've made thru that venue. I try to limit my follows, but those I do constantly impress.
My job designing photographer tools for the last decade has allowed me to travel, attend conferences (you'll always find me at WPPI & PPE) and meet with some great artists and interesting people.
Finally, I do a weekly roundup of the important happenings in the Lightroom world, entitled "Lightroom Tuesday" that is chalk full of tutorials, tips and tricks for making the most of today's outstanding workflow software. Follow me on Twitter for the weekly reminders.
Its a great time to be a photographer.

Short Bio - I am a photographer, I always been in one way or another. I am the girl that had a camera in my purse everywhere she went. My friends stopped taking photos because they knew I would. I always dreamed of being a photographer, but it was just that, a dream. Something I never thought could be a reality. Until one day my husband David asked me "What do you have to lose?" I thought long and hard about that, I didn't have much to lose, but had everything to gain. Now I am doing what I love and living out my passion.
When I am shooting I see the world differently through my camera. I get an indescribable feeling inside, I come alive. There is something about capturing ordinary things through my lens and making them beautiful. It is my art.

Short Bio: Oh lets see. I love tell the story about how I got started, mostly because it's pretty crazy. I had a fav photog who moved to Southern California and I pretty much freaked out because she took ALL the photos of my children. So I decided that the last session we had scheduled I would take mental notes of her equipment and just go and buy everything that I needed to do what she was doing. So after leaving the amera store with over $10K of equipment, I thought I was a "professional". My husband came home to find me in tears in our living room with a camera that had a black LCD screen. I HAD NO IDEA WHAT I WAS DOING. Nothing was returnable and I was up the creek. I mean, I bought a 35mm lens cause the "35mm" sounded like "photo stuff" and I thought I needed it....I truly didn't even know what aperture was or ANYTHING. The learning curve was quit humbling to say the least.
Always up for learning (I have a Master's Degree in Education), I decided this was not going to get the best of me. The idea was to be able to take photos of my children, not really to start a business. Soon it became a healthy addiction and an artistic outlet. It was "me" time as all parents out there know you need that "me" time to indulge in your favorite hobbies. It was amazing to me that I could actually start making money doing this, I love it, still do.
I started to follow AMAZING photographers and learn from them. My early mentors who have now become friends are Bob and Dawn Davis. They started my career. I truly believe that. I took their workshop first, it was amazing and things have never been the same. I started simply with portraits, afraid to take on weddings, but realized soon enough, weddings are a LONG portrait session with a great story to tell. Then I was hooked. I blame and thank Mike Colon and his workshop on getting a lot of my business together, marketing etc. I have been really fortunate to have met some amazing people in this industry and if there is any advice I can give to those you start, do what you love first, and reach out to others. Without my early mentors, I would most likely still be lost.
A few short years later, I have a studio in Irvine. I have amazing clients both portraits and weddings. I have won Accolade and Merit Awards in both WPPI as well as PPOC. I plan on entering more images, and more and more. I continue to learn, I'll never stop learning, but now I also teach! Imagine that, I actually teach those in my community how to use their consumer DSLRs as well as do some professional mentoring. I believe in myself, I am blessed to have others believe in me, I am determined as all hell, but I love it, I love it all and I get to live it everyday!

Dana Underwood | Travel Photography

The Quick Survey
- Name / Business Name: Dana Underwood/ Dana's Eye Photography
- Located in: San Mateo, CA
- Started in: In 2008, I took about a year off and really ramped up my shooting. A lot. On August 17, 2008, I did a shoot with then-Senator Barack Obama and 6 key supporters. As I clicked away, not listening to any of their conversation, sweating through the armpits of my dress shirt and suit jacket, I thought to myself, "This is fun. I should try to get paid to do this."
- Status: Part-time.
- Types of Photography: Portraiture, Travel
- Primary Camera / Favorite Lens: Canon 5D / My current love affair is with my 16-35mm f/2.8, but if I had only one lens I could have with me, it would be my well-worn 24-105mm f/4.
- Interesting Personal Fact: In 2009, my girlfriend and I logged nearly 250k frequent flyer miles in our cross-continental relationship.

Short Bio:
In 2004, on my way to Nepal, I laid my hands on a digital camera for the first time and discovered a pastime that quickly became a passion. Since then, I have been constantly searching for opportunities to combine photography with every element of my life...including travel, friendships, work, and family. As a former engineer, I enjoy my creativity with a touch of structure. Photography lets me indulge my appetite for gadgetry while *trying* to produce something that I (and hopefully some others) love to look at. To me, a perfect image is as interesting on the thousandth view as it was on the first. And not always for the same reasons. I enthusiastically vouch for the emotional and artistic power of making consistent shooting a lifestyle choice.
I am a Baltimore native, a lifelong Orioles fan, and now reside in the San Francisco Bay Area. I spend my days in the marketing department of a biotech startup and devote practically all other time to photography (and packing for flights).

Word from the Photographer: I am a little bit crazy, a little bit nuts. I love the smell of coffee shops, but hate coffee. I drink tea ever since I visited Ireland. Majored in Church Music in college, guitar with a minor in piano. Started shooting the summer of 2006 and didn't know what an f stop was. Borrowed lights from a friend and triggered them with my on camera flash. I love deep dish pizza but am lactose intolerant. I'm a PC. I got a wife that is hot stuff. Just got my first tattoo. I take photos because I love capturing time, memories, and feelings. I like making people look good even if they think they don't. I love taking photos. Pretty much the best job ever.

Tony Gale is a NYC based photographer. Tony was raised in Bellingham, Washington (90 miles north of Seattle) and spent most of his time as a child exploring the woods behind his parents house. At 21 he moved to Seattle to pursue photography and in fall of 2000 moved to NYC, the center of the world. Tony was a member of the ASMPNY steering committee from 2001-2006, and has been a member of the APANY board since 2006.
