I LOVE my job! I used to take sheets and hang them from closet doors to take pictures of my little cousins in front of when I was a little girl. I continued to have a love of photography growing up and was the editor for the yearbook in high school. From there I went on to go to a photography school and start my business. I strive to make my clients feel comfortable and have fun! I love every type of photography from the newborn babies to the 50th Anniversary parties!

Short Bio

I have been shooting now for 4 years. I started when my daughter was almost 3 months old. I have no idea why I started a business when I had a newborn! Anyway, I've gone from working in my garage to a tiny studio in our old town house to building a home just for the studio and now in a retail studio place.

I absolutely love what I do for a living. I don't feel like it's a job. Well, maybe except during crazy season.

I also teach off camera flash to people all over the world. I've been to Australia, Salt Lake City 3 times and going for a 4th, Michigan twice, Las Vegas, Florida, New Orleans and going to be going to Sacramento in October.

I enjoy teaching photographers and meeting so many amazing people! I met Scott Jarvie thru my adventures in traveling and teaching!

Short Bio - Word from the Photographer

Corey started in photography when he took a photography class and was a photog for his senior yearbook in high school. The camera he used then and still uses on occasion now is a Pentax K1000. In fact one of the speedlites he uses in his portable "strobist" outfit is the very strobe used with the Pentax all those years ago.

He joined the U.S.A.F shortly after marrying his wife and traveled between 35 states and lived in four of them. They even had the opportunity to live a just over a year in the United Kingdom. He photographed primarily his surroundings, his wife and family, and was limited only by time and money. After the kids grew to be teens, more money was available and the move from film photography to digital photography was made with the purchase of a Canon 40D.

He originally had vision of capturing primarily motorsports but has found making images of people to be much more satisfying. Now he focuses on families, models, actors/actress, and the events that happen during all of our lives.

A bit about me…My name is Samantha (Sam) and my middle name isn’t really Jane. Although I grandmother has called me Samantha Jane for as long as I can remember, I think it was out of spite to my father for not giving me a middle name.

I have an addiction to my iPhone. I love to ski. I tend to be a bit of a dork, although I try to act like I’m not. I am a bit accident prone, some call it endearing, others amusing, but it’s just me.

Photography for me is love, passion and obsession all wrapped up into one. I think of my clients as friends, and treat them as so. I love capturing the little moments, the ones that generally go un-noticed. My style can be described as lifestyle, with a bit of sass and glamour.

I wish I could think of something exciting and interesting to say, but the truth is, I'm just your average gal who's in l-o-v-e with photography!! I have been involved with photography and the arts for many years but it was the adoption of our first child that really kick-started my passion and gave me the motivation to finally turn nthis talent into a business. My favorite part of my job? I love to help others see the love and joy in their own families and children. There's nothing more rewarding than seeing a Mom's face light up (or sometimes cry!) when she holds the images of her family in her hands for the first time. Its what keeps me fulfilled, striving to learn and
develop my craft and my business as a whole. Its also a constant reminder of how precious these little moments are to a family and how easily they can slip away, going completely un-noticed.

Heading into my second year of business, I am more excited than ever before! There are so many exciting things on the horizon that I cannot wait to share with the beautiful, amazing clients of Danielle Lynn Photography!!

Photography by Megan Brown

The Quick Survey

  • Name/ Business Name:  Megan Brown/ Photography by Megan Brown
  • Located in: Provo, Utah
  • Started in: 2001 just as a hobbyist then became more serious the beginning of 2008
  • Status:  Part time
  • Types of Photography: maternity, newborn, children, family, weddings, portraits
  • Primary Camera / Favorite Lens: Canon 5d mark ii  24-70L 2.8 and 50mm 1.4
  • Interesting Personal Fact: I went to Long Island New York to be a nanny when I was twenty years old and had a wonderful experience.  Also,  I married into a bowling family.  My husband, along with all of his immediate family, bowls and so now I have become a bowler too.  My average isn't that great, but I try ;)   I'm very competitive. As I was getting pretty serious into photography, I became pregnant with my fifth child.  It became a high-risk pregnancy and I was ordered to be on bed-rest for ten weeks.  Photography had to be put on hold. My baby came three months early and I was able to document his journey with my love for photography.  He's now out of the hospital and doing really well. I'm now getting back into it and LOVING it!

Short Bio

I grew up one of three girls, I was the middle.  I became very independent, strong minded, strong willed and responsible at a very young age.  I was always concerned about others and dreaded the thought of anyone being mad at me.  I honored and respected my parents.  I had dreams to be someone...someone successful.  I wasn't sure how I would acheive that.  I spent time going to college,
working, then trying to find myself while being a nanny across the country.  After returning to where I called home, two weeks later I met my sweet husband.  We were inseparable, in a whirlwhind romance, constantly joined at the hip.  Eight months later we were married. Six months after that, we were expecting our first little baby.  After becoming a mommy, it became one of the biggest parts of defining my success.  Longing for the baby pictures that were never taken of me, I started to become obsessive with recording my own babies life.  There grew my love for photograhy and one other way of defining my own success.  Along the years, more children blessed and enriched my life. And each of them helped to nourish, cultivate, and strengthen my desire to learn photography.  I was always told I had an eye when others saw my work.  It encouraged me and I eventually took the plunge and bought my first Digital SLR camera in 2008.  Many friends and family helped me practice by being my subjects.  And many other photographers inspired me all the while deepening my strong urge to pursue this passion. While at first my love for photography was self-serving, I really saw the happiness I brought to others when taking pictures for them.  They say you find pure joy in serving others, that you lose yourself in service and your problems become the least of your worries.  My way to serve others is to help them keep the memories they hold dear to their hearts.  I'm lucky to have found something that is my passion in which not only benefits me, but all those around me as well.

I believe happy people are the most beautiful people. And beauty has nothing to do with how someone looks. I believe everyone has a kind of beauty, and it's my job to bring that out and capture it. I love showing people how beautiful they are. I love beautiful photography, but I’m not interest in perfection in my portraits. I don’t do a lot of posing. Most of the time I will put you somewhere, stand back and wait for something to happen. “Say cheese” is not in my vocabulary. Hopefully, you won’t even know I am taking your picture when you give your kids a kiss on the cheek, or share a look with your spouse. To me, photography is about connections and moments.

Dana Underwood | Travel Photography

The Quick Survey

  • Name / Business Name: Dana Underwood/ Dana's Eye Photography
  • Located in: San Mateo, CA
  • Started in:  In 2008, I took about a year off and really ramped up my shooting.  A lot.  On August 17, 2008, I did a shoot with then-Senator Barack Obama and 6 key supporters.  As I clicked away, not listening to any of their conversation, sweating through the armpits of my dress shirt and suit jacket, I thought to myself, "This is fun.  I should try to get paid to do this."
  • Status: Part-time.
  • Types of Photography: Portraiture, Travel
  • Primary Camera / Favorite Lens: Canon 5D / My current love affair is with my 16-35mm f/2.8, but if I had only one lens I could have with me, it would be my well-worn 24-105mm f/4.
  • Interesting Personal Fact: In 2009, my girlfriend and I logged nearly 250k frequent flyer miles in our cross-continental relationship.

Short Bio:

In 2004, on my way to Nepal, I laid my hands on a digital camera for the first time and discovered a pastime that quickly became a passion. Since then, I have been constantly searching for opportunities to combine photography with every element of my life...including travel, friendships, work, and family.  As a former engineer, I enjoy my creativity with a touch of structure. Photography lets me indulge my appetite for gadgetry while *trying* to produce something that I (and hopefully some others) love to look at. To me, a perfect image is as interesting on the thousandth view as it was on the first. And not always for the same reasons.  I enthusiastically vouch for the emotional and artistic power of making consistent shooting a lifestyle choice.

I am a Baltimore native, a lifelong Orioles fan, and now reside in the San Francisco Bay Area. I spend my days in the marketing department of a biotech startup and devote practically all other time to photography (and packing for flights).

I'm just a small town girl who LOVES what I do. I adore and love every second I am behind the camera. I am a natural light photographer and all of my work is done with available light and at outdoor locations.
I'm so lucky to have my husband by my side for all wedding shoots. I could not do it without him and I fall in love with him all over again every time we shoot a wedding together.
Thanks for this opportunity!

"Being passionate about photography is in my nature. I have always had a fascination with art and imagery. As a teen, I would spend my money on magazines, and every square inch of my room was covered like wallpaper with ads that provoked specific emotions. I see passion, drama, truth and beauty in every moment. I cannot help but translate that into my work. As a photographer, my goal is to create stunning photos. I find a sense of fulfillment in this art that I don't find anywhere else. All of my passions (like music and my family) influence and affect my photographs. I am a hopeless romantic with a flare for style and glamour. I'm relaxed and fun, and I tend to babble if I'm excited or nervous :) You should know: photography is not my "job". It is my obsession, I'm intoxicated by it. "

A Word From Jarvie

I didn't do the Highlighting post on Brooke but I wanted to say a couple words.
I was introduced to Brooke's photography through a couple of good friends.
Seems like I've had a lot of interns and friends in love with her work.
I find it funny that I feel important because I actually know her, they think I'm cooler because I do.
Truth is I only met her once at my birthday party. But I'll take what I can get.

Meet The Photographer Event

Recently I came up with this rocking idea to highlight well known photographers in a fun and friendly fashion.
Since a lot of people know about her and yet a lot of people don't actually know her personally, we should do an event that solves this.
We'll meet up and start a new Meet the Photographer event
She'll be the first photographer: This Monday 7pm

So if you'd like to meet Brooke in person and know more about her and her photography make your way on over to Lehi, Utah on Monday.

For more details check out my Blog post - http://jarviestudios.com/blog/2010/02/meet-brooke-kinsey

I am a big dork. I like to make faces and weird noises at random times. I am pretty up front and open and those who know me can pretty much tell you that if you ask me something, I will tell you the truth.  I have no shame and tend to blog personal things that many may not have even thought of knowing...but this is who I am.  I can be random, I like..no LOVE ice cream and will take it any day of the week in any weather.  I love photographing people because it allows me to see inside their lives for a little bit and really makes me appreciate the love and spirit for life even more. I consider myself really lucky and really blessed.

About the Photographer

William Packard is a photographer who's always had the talent and just recently decided to bless others by sharing.  His style is amazing, sophisticated yet can take on an edge.  He values the opportunities he has in sharing such momentous occasions with what was once a total stranger but now an everlasting friend.  When you ask him his favorite part of his business it's meeting all kinds and new and fabulous people.  He loves what he does and it shows in his work.  To watch him in action is amazing, you can actually see the wheels turn.  And he's not against climbing like a monkey, getting soaking wet, or rolling on the floor to get that "perfect" shot!
